Decorative textured plaster suitable for exterior and interior wall decoration, looks appropriate in the interior of modern residential and office space. Designers successfully use the material in translating their decisions. After applying and drying the material on the surface, a fabric effect is created with a fantastic play of light as the angle of view changes.

Decorative plaster "silk" is divided into 2 main categories:

  • with the addition of silk of artificial origin (the brand of material distinguishes the composition and texture, which affects the difference in their value);
  • with the addition of natural silk fibers, which explains the relatively high cost of plaster.

Like almost any building material, such a variety of it also has its pros and cons.

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

Since the walls and corners in the rooms in most cases leave much to be desired, it is difficult even for professionals to cope with pasting them with wallpaper. But such inconveniences are easily eliminated when using plaster under silk, no seams, joints, crevices, irregularities and other defects of the treated surfaces after its application will not be noticeable.

The advantages of silk plaster for walls:

  • environmental safety of the material;
  • high degree of sound and heat insulation;
  • resistance to low temperatures;
  • no difficulty in applying it (do it yourself is not difficult);
  • color fastness (does not lose brightness under the influence of sunlight and over time);
  • by adding antistatic agents to the surface, dust does not stick to its surfaces;
  • antiseptics in the composition of the material prevent the formation of mold;
  • does not require "shrinkage", which allows you to successfully use it in new buildings;
  • attractiveness from an aesthetic point of view.

But such a universal coating has a number of disadvantages, which include weak vapor permeability (hygroscopicity), because it is not recommended to use when finishing kitchens and bathrooms, drying time (the process can take at least 12 and more than 70 hours, depending on air temperature and moisture levels), as well as an insufficient degree of strength, which leads to mechanical damage when the plaster comes in contact with foreign objects. Therefore, it is better not to use the material for decoration of premises in which a large accumulation or movement of people is expected.

In any case, the silk version of plaster has more positive qualities than negative ones.

Preparatory activities for finishing with textured material

First of all, it is necessary to decide on what type of material is supposed to work, as it can be decorative plaster “wet silk”, “silk smooth” or “draped”. Before applying the material on the walls should consider their type (they can be concrete, brick, metal, wood, etc.)

Of course, when carrying out repairs it is better to use the skill of professionals, but when it comes to decorative silk plaster, you can count on your own strength, since working with such does not require special knowledge in construction. Moreover, the package with this building material attached detailed instructions for its use.

When all walls are finished, the plaster remains can be collected in a small container and frozen in order to preserve its properties, they are still useful in carrying out local repairs (if the silk layer is damaged).

How to apply plaster when repairing damaged areas of surfaces? To do this, it is enough to remove the damaged fragment, having previously moistened it with water. Next, the diluted plaster is applied and smoothed to the problem area (the process is similar to that indicated earlier).

Summarizing

In order to delay the next repair of decorative plaster for a longer period of time, you can apply a layer of water-repellent lacquer on top of it, it will be given the role of protection from pollution and moisture. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the color of the coating will change and, possibly, not for the better.

In order to preserve the original color and pattern of the silk surface, it is better to avoid contact with her furniture, etc., periodically using a regular vacuum cleaner to remove dust. Minor debris can be removed by applying a regular eraser. But to wash the decorative plaster with water should not be, as the liquid simply "dissolve" it.
